Subway (Metro) Station Styles….

Providing a little sense of the process of entering the subway system and some views of being in the stations and on the platforms (off peak hours :-).

Each subway station stop has its own character and/or style….some stations are very artistically done. I will continue to add more pictures of these unique station platforms as the year unfolds.

Electronic weekly or monthly passes and/or daily tickets can be used for entering subway system.
Some subway stations have small passage ways to platforms and some have long passage ways for connecting to different lines.
You will find staircases in all subway stations…it’s just a matter of how many and how far down you need to transcend and vice versa. There are escalators at times and some subway stations (particularly in the 18th or Montemarte area) of the city that have elevators.
All subway platforms have an electronic clock and train arrival count-down…very efficient.

Montparnasse’s Metro Station has moving sidewalks to help passengers navigate one of the two longest connection passage ways of the entire Paris Metro System (Les Halles metro stop also has a huge underground passage way system)

 

 

 

 

 

Varenne platform (Rodin’s -Thinker) in the 7th. arrondissement

 

This dramatic 10 foot high platform sculptor is of the man the subway station is named after – Varenne, sculpted by Rodin.

Hôtel de Ville (4th) Platform. Some station stops are so popular or busy, that protective glass has been installed to lessen the chance of accidents (i.e. people falling or being pushed onto the tracks).

The Cluny La Sorbonne metro stop (in the 5th) displays famous French dignitaries and artisan’s signatures.

Metro Stop Abbesses is one-of-a-kind in Paris because it is one of the few metros that runs under Montmartre (“Mountain” of Martyrs). With this said, you have two options when jumping off the metro 1) you can take the 100+ plus stairs to reach the top 2) Or, take the large commercial elevator?
So, how do your legs and lungs feel today….come on, push yourself and enjoy the beautifully painted mural walls as you walk up the steps!
Don’t do it…join me taking the stairs!!
