Cimetière du Père-Lachaise

Paris has 3 very famous cemeteries - Cimetière de Montmartre, Cimetière du Montparnasse and Cimetière du Père-Lachaise (Father LaChaise). Cimetière du Père-Lachaise (named after François de la Chaise a Jesuit Priest/Confessor to Louis XIV)  is the world’s most visited cemetery…it is reported that more than 2 million visitors per year walk the 104 acres of over 70,000+ graves of some of the greatest authors, scientists and historians of France and the world. ( i.e. Moliere, La Fontaine, Abelard, Camille Pissaro, Chopin, Breguet, Murat, Balzac, George Haussmann (Paris City Planner), Delacroix, Gertrude Stein, Oscar Wilde and of course Jim Morrison.

This cemetery is mesmerizing to walk through…it has 10′s of 1000′s of personal and family expressions of love by way of sculptors and epitaphs. 70,000+ symbols/unique ways families and/or individuals want to be remembered for eternity; some are humorous, contemplative, serious, and whimsical …it really makes you say…”How do I want to be remembered and How would I be remembered if I should pass today”??

I will continue to add more pictures from Père Lachaise.

The power of seeing the Blessed Mother in this simple posture and being able to feel the impact of her utter sorrow still moves me every time I see it. How many times have we seen the Blessed Mother in such a fragile state….notice the fallen halo and flowers by her feet – implying nothing else in this world matters but this personal loss.

If you ever think you have a tough last name..!

Jim Morrison’s grave sight. Even with it’s very low key setting, compared to the very elaborate monuments surrounding his grave…Jim Morrison’s grave sight is one of the most visited (if not the most) in the entire cemetery. Jim Morrison died in Paris at the age of “27″.
